Caterpillar first introduced the 980G Series II wheel loader to North America and France in 2000. It was the replacement for the 980G wheel loader.
The 980G II has a 3406E air-to-air after cooled engine that produced 300 horsepower. It came standard with electronic controls, freewheel stator torque converter and a modified cab.
The Caterpillar 980G II was later replaced by the 980H.
